ARTISTA ARTS & CRAFTS

We strive to market the abilities of people with disabilities to enable the public to see and experience the person and not the disability.

  • Experience has taught that talking about abilities has minimal impact. Seeing is believing….
  • On 7th December 2004 the Artista Art gallery was opened with the primary objective being to exhibit art works by people with disabilities to the public.
  • A network of various artists have been established and their works put on display in the gallery. One such painting was borrowed for exhibition in the Pretoria Art Gallery for six months.
  • Sponsorships are granted to artistic learners in schools for learners with special needs with a view to promoting their work.
  • Auctions of these works are planned to generate an income for the artists.
  • During 2007 funds were received to open an arts & crafts workshop. People with disabilities are trained in bead work, mosaic, leather work, painting and crafting. These products will go on sale, with crafters sharing in the profits.

The ultimate reward of this project is the satisfaction  of artists when their work is commended or the pleasure of crafters when realizing that they have created their own product.

The project brings to mind a famous proverb:

“Show me where to stand and I will move the world!”
